The Modelling, Analysis, Simulation (MAS) program is one of the four programs available in the “Mathematics of Modelling” specialty, the second year of the Masters in “Mathematics and Applications”.

The course is jointly taught by:

  • Université Pierre et Marie Curie Paris 6 (lead establishment),
  • Université Paris Nord,
  • École Normale Supérieure (Ulm),
  • École Polytechnique,
  • École nationale des ponts et chaussées

Objectives

The core theme of the MAS program is the theoretical and numerical study of problems modelled by linear and nonlinear partial differential equations drawn from various spheres such as physics, engineering science, chemistry, biology, economics, as well as the methods of scientific calculus. Their purpose is to simulate these problems numerically. With its wide range of courses, this Masters program offers the opportunity to explore and master the different aspects of these disciplines. The different mathematical fields concerned are diverse and fast changing; their development is reflected in a growing need for research mathematicians, and this role is the primary objective of this Masters program.

Career Opportunities

The goal of the MAS program is to train:

  • researchers in applied mathematics for careers in higher education and research, or in high-tech industrial sectors,
  • high-level mathematical engineers with a strong grounding in all aspects of modern scientific calculation, looking for careers in industrial research departments and companies providing scientific calculation services.
