State of the Map 2026

28 Aug. 2026 - 30 Aug. 2026

Géodata Paris, Université Gustave Eiffel and École nationale des ponts et chaussées are hosting the State of the Map event from 28 to 30 August 2026 on the Cité Descartes campus.

Since 2007, the annual State of the Map (SoTM) global conference has brought together the international OpenStreetMap community: volunteer contributors, developers, student researchers, representatives of institutions and local authorities, businesses of all sizes, and NGOs. This diversity of backgrounds and origins makes State of the Map a unique forum for observing the global uses of open geodata.

Hosting State of the Map in France is an exceptional event for the French geomatics and open data ecosystem.

Over three days, around fifty workshops, round-table discussions and talks will form the programme, which will be streamed live and recorded to ensure they are accessible to as many people as possible. The programme will be conducted mainly in English, but a dedicated track for French-language presentations has been set aside.

Alongside this, informal sessions and poster exhibitions will enrich discussions among participants. A TV studio will also be set up throughout the conference, producing a continuous stream of editorial content and interviews with the community and speakers.

The topics covered at State of the Map will span a broad spectrum, ranging from the use of open data and the development of open-source tools to crisis mapping, the ecological and energy transition, mobility and accessibility, artificial intelligence applied to geography, data quality and trust, and other institutional and scientific applications, amongst others.
