Background
This programme (in partnership with the website Math-fi.com) is based on the Ecole nationale des ponts et chaussées engineering course.Student numbers are limited to around twenty (excluding Ecole des Ponts students). It comprises:
- a course unit (UE) of core subjects
- an UE in “Advanced financial mathematics”
The Mathfi project, a joint Paris-East Marne-la-Vallée University, Ecole nationale des ponts et chaussées and INRIA (national IT and automation research institute) research team, manages the scientific content of this programme. This team is developing financial mathematics software in partnership with the industry.
Objectives
The second year of the Masters in “Mathematics and Applications” (formerly a pre-doctoral degree in Analysis and Random Systems) offers students a dual grounding in analysis and probabilities, and possibilities of specialisation in different application-related fields.
Career openings
Since certain courses are clearly focused on applications, in particular the finance and applied probability programmes, after completing the Masters graduates can find openings in the corporate sector. The sectors concerned are market finance (quantitative analysis, structuring, trading…), reliability, problems of change originating in physics. In these sectors, there is great demand within research bodies, big industrial firms and banks.
