SAGE Programme
At the heart of the specialist SAGE programme is a common core of three modules, with two levels (1 and 2). These focus on the three major classes of biochemical process active in almost all aquatic environments :
- (i) physio-chemical,
- (ii) microbiological
- (iii) hydrodynamic.
There is also a compulsory common introductory module (multidisciplinary project and English).
All students must study the three compulsory core subjects (fluid mechanics, chemistry and microbiology), including at least one at level 2, depending on their research or career plans and prior background.
In the research programme, students also take part in a bibliographic seminar which gives them an introduction both to bibliographical research in science and to the presentation of abstracts. Like all the other students on the specialist SAGE programme, they also participate in a multidisciplinary project which compares complementary ways of approaching an environmental problem and the interaction between them. English language training takes the form of lectures.
The other courses are optional within and/or outside the specialist programme. Students choose the optional modules to match their individual plans in consultation with their academic supervisors.
The programme producers two standard profiles: a specialist in urban water, including water management and policy problems, and a specialist in the “natural environment”, focusing more on biogeochemical processes in natural conditions.
