The Tandem
Tandem learning is based on a mutual and structured exchange between two speakers of different native or first languages. Far from being a simple informal dialogue, it is an active and autonomous learning method in which each participant alternately takes on the role of teacher and learner. A teaching tutor accompanies the tandem for a few sessions to guide them.
This enrichment program is based on two fundamental principles:
1. The principle of autonomy: Each partner is responsible for their own learning process and works with their partner to define the most relevant objectives, content, and working methods.
2. The principle of reciprocity: Speaking and study time is equally divided between the two target languages, ensuring maximum benefit for both parties.
This partnership offers authentic linguistic and cultural immersion, allowing one not only to perfect one’s mastery of the target language (fluency, pronunciation, idiomatic vocabulary), but also to acquire a deeper understanding of the cultural codes and contexts intrinsically linked to it.
