Shanghai ranking: IP Paris moves up 99 places to 224th worldwide

25 Aug. 2025

For the first time, Institut Polytechnique de Paris has entered the global top 250 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), “Shanghai Ranking”, reaching the 224th position, a leap of 99 places in just one year. It also ranks 9th among French institutions (up 5 places).

This result reflects the recognition of a collective and long-term effort over the past five years to establish a world-class institute of science and technology. This progress is driven by:

  • the growing impact of our cutting-edge research (5,100 publications, 45 laboratories, 2,250 faculty and research staff);
  • the presence of highly cited researchers, the rise in the weighted number of publications in Nature and Science, and the continued increase in publications indexed in the SCIE/SSCI databases;
  • the high level of internationalization of our faculty (41%).

This international recognition takes place in a context that highlights the momentum of IP Paris. The 2024 integration of École nationale des ponts et chaussées completed the strategic scope of the Institute, while the merger of ENSTA Paris with ENSTA Bretagne opens new opportunities in research, education, and innovation, particularly in the maritime and environmental fields. The Institute’s seven interdisciplinary centers continue to apply their expertise to major contemporary challenges: artificial intelligence, climate, health, defense, and security.

IP Paris' continued progress in each of these rankings is a strong signal of its global momentum and the constant strengthening of its academic excellence.
