Research Activities

Cité Descartes is home to several public research and higher education establishments. These establishments have historically developed a number of collaborative activities within the Polytechnicum de Marne-la- Vallée, a public interest group created more than 10 years ago.
In 2007, new national initiatives were taken to transform public research and promote research partnerships. The result was an institutional process involving:

  • the creation of the Paris-East Universitypublic establishment as a research and higher education cluster (PRES), responsible for managing research within the Cité Descartes establishments;
  • the development of an association (Advancity Ville and Sustainable Mobilitycompetitiveness cluster) to develop projects for collaboration between its members, whether private companies, public institutions or local government agencies,
  • in parallel, MEDDTLis preparing to install the scientific and technical cluster (PST) on the Cité Descartes site, which will notably include IFSTTAR(formerly LCPC and INRETS) and the services of CSTB.This international cluster will be Europe’s biggest centre focusing on Cities, Sustainable Development and their Engineering, housing 1500 researchers, engineers and PhD researchers, forming the Sustainable City Cluster at the heart of Greater Paris.
