International approach in education
Mobility
At École nationale des ponts et chaussées, all students must spend some of their degree program abroad, whether studying or in an internship.
A requirement
There is now a minimum requirement for common examination students on the engineering program: they must spend at least eight continuous weeks abroad during the program. In practice, École des Ponts students spend an average of one year of their training outside France.
Possibilities abroad
- On the short internship: professional experience in a functional project, for two months between the 2nd and 3rd year. More than 50% of short internships are done abroad.
- On the long internship: experience as a novice engineer in a company, for one year between the 2nd and 3rd year. More than 25% of long internships are undertaken abroad.
- During the end of course project: a genuine professional project, one semester at the end of the 3rd year.
- As part of a double-degree: academic program that culminates in a degree from École nationale des ponts et chaussées and from a partner university.
- As a third year spent abroad: academic study for one or two semesters in a foreign university. Almost half the students who enter the School via examination will spend a year in a partner university during their degree.
Intercultural skills
Language learning and intercultural communication consequently play an important role in the education of student engineers. In all, 20% of study time is dedicated to languages.
English
English is compulsory for everyone and, to be awarded a degree, students must have obtained a minimum score of 785 points in the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication).
Second Compulsory Language
Students must also choose a second language from the following options: German, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Russian

Multicultural associations
The "international" section within the School's student association (the "student office"), represented by an international student, supports international students by organizing the "My Pair" programme. International students in engineering training are invited to the "Integration Weekend". Numerous cultural evenings are organised during which international students are invited to present their country of origin.
Accommodation
Access of international students to the School's housing stock. In order to favour the accommodation of its students, École nationale des ponts et chaussées has signed agreements with several student residences, in Champs-sur-Marne, but also in Paris. International students have access to this accommodation.
