Île-de-France Mobilités and the School create the Chair "Mobility Transitions, Mobility Futures"

11 Feb. 2026

École nationale des ponts et chaussées (ENPC) and Île-de-France Mobilités have launched a joint five-year research chair entitled “Mobility Dynamics and Prospects,” led by the Laboratoire Ville, Mobilité, Transport (LVMT), a joint research unit under the supervision of the ENPC and Gustave Eiffel University.

It aims to understand and describe the dynamics of mobility through changes in lifestyles, marked by the impact of digital technology, the emergence of new mobility services, and their integration into local areas. The work will also focus on how to better integrate economic, environmental, and social issues into the evaluation of mobility policies in Île-de-France. The opening of the new lines 15 to 18 will also be a key focus, with work being carried out to monitor and evaluate the changes in mobility and the regions associated with this new infrastructure. The chair's work will therefore focus on major research issues in a region that sees 9.4 million public transport journeys every day.

Science at the service of analyzing mobility transformations in the Île-de-France region

The scientific team consists of Nicolas Coulombel, senior lecturer at ENPC and researcher at LVMT, who coordinates the program, and two scientific directors, Florent le Néchet, senior lecturer at Gustave Eiffel University, and Alexis Poulhès, lecturer at ENPC and researcher at LVMT.

The research will focus on three areas of study:

  • Axis 1 – Mobility and Territories
  • Axis 2 – Social and environmental transition
  • Axe 3 – Data, models, methods
