Mobility Transitions, Mobility Futures

Management

  • Programme leader: Nicolas Coulombel (LVMT)
  • Scientific directors: Florent Le Néchet (LVMT), Alexis Poulhès (LVMT)

Objective

The Chair's objective is to understand and describe mobility dynamics in the Paris region through a series of thematic and methodological research projects. This work will focus in particular on changes in lifestyles—such as the impact of digital technology on the organization of mobility—and mobility services—such as the emergence of new services and their regional roots—and on the evaluation of policies from an economic, environmental, and social perspective. The opening of the Grand Paris Express metro network will also be a key focus, with a proposal to assess the changes in mobility and territories linked to this new infrastructure.

The Chair's work will focus on establishing forward-looking visions. Analysis of changes in lifestyles, the future demographic shift in the Ile-de-France region, and environmental constraints will shed light on the challenges of adapting transport networks and mobility systems.

Themes

The Chair's research program is structured around three axes.

  • Axis 1, “Mobility and Territories,” corresponds to a “socio-economics of mobility” approach. It aims to characterize the current dynamics of mobility in the Ile-de-France region and identify the main determinants, particularly in relation to changes in lifestyles.
  • Axis 2, “Social and Environmental Transitions,” will offer a reflection on mobility infrastructure and its coherence at the regional level. Forward-looking narratives will be proposed to project possible futures and anticipate potential disruptions to mobility in the Île-de-France region.
  • Axis 3, “Data, models, methods,” has a strong methodological dimension and will support axes 1 and 2, both in terms of the use of data available to Ile-de-France Mobilité and the design and production of specific thematic surveys. A reflective look will also be taken at the various techniques for modeling daily mobility, to shed light on the areas of relevance of each major family of models (4-step models, agent-based models, etc.).
